Class 10 Chapter 12. Magnetic Effects of Electric Current Activities Simulation

Activity 12.2 – Magnetic Field Around a Bar Magnet

Activity 12.2: Iron Filings Around a Bar Magnet

Interactive simulation of the magnetic field pattern around a bar magnet
Observation
Sprinkle iron filings around the bar magnet.
First sprinkle the filings, then tap the board gently to see them align along the magnetic field.

What do you observe?

After tapping, the iron filings arrange themselves in curved patterns around the magnet. The pattern represents magnetic field lines. The filings are more crowded near the poles, showing that the magnetic field is stronger there.
